LGBTQ Discrimination

Compared to federal law, Minnesota anti-discrimination laws provide Minnesota workers with stronger and more robust protections in the workplace for LGBTQ employees.

The Minnesota Human Rights Act makes it plainly illegal for employers to:

  • refuse to hire or to maintain a system of employment which unreasonably excludes a person seeking employment; or
  • discharge an employee; or
  • discriminate against a person with respect to hiring, tenure, compensation, terms, upgrading, conditions, facilities, or privileges of employment because of, among other things, the employee’s “sexual orientation,” which includes a person's gender identity

As an LGBTQ-owned law firm, Haller Kwan LLP will always be committed to advancing and protecting the interests of LGBTQ Minnesotans in the workplace. We mean it when we say it: call any time if you have questions about how you’ve been treated at work.
